Ada Bauldree Diamond, January 21, 1915 - February 6, 2012

Ada Bauldree Diamond, age 97, of Jay, FL (Brownsdale) went to be with her heavenly father on Monday, February 6, 2012.

Mrs. Diamond was born January 21, 1915 to the late James Richard Bauldree and Annie Myers Bauldree in Enterprise, AL. Her family moved to Jay, FL in 1927. In 1933, she married John Daniel (J.D.) Diamond and had nine children. Together they farmed and operated a grocery store until they retired in 1967.

After retirement, they enjoyed camping and fishing with family and friends. She was a member of Jay First Assembly of God and loved to go to church and listen to preaching and gospel music.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, John Daniel Diamond; sons, Richard Edward Diamond, Charles Rudolph Diamond and John Clinton Diamond; sons-in-law, Hardy Renfroe and Dennis Williams; one grandchild, Vickie Diamond; two sisters, Ethel Mae Stewart and Cora Lee Noles; six brothers, Hubert Smith, Lloyd Smith, James Bauldree, T.D. Bauldree, Willard Bauldree and Alfred Bauldree.

Survivors include: five daughters, Addie Rue (Bud) Mote, Linda Williams, Annie Merle Renfroe, Paulette (Tommy) Roberts and Delorise Ann (Glenn) Gavin; one son, James Earl (Faye) Diamond; two daughters-in-law, Doris Diamond and Mary Diamond; 22 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 6:00 to 9:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at Jay Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M, Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Jay First Assembly of God with Rev. Ron Carnley and Rev. Frederick Barrow officiating. Burial will follow at Cora Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at The Terrace at Ivey Acres Assisted Living Facility, Covenant Hospice and Dr. Jeffrey Kelley for the special care given to Mrs. Diamond during her last few months.

Mary Ellen Enfinger, 77, of Chumuckla passed away unexpectedly
on Monday January 30, 2012. Mary was born on April 20, 1934 in Jay, FL
and had resided in Chumuckla for most of her life.

Mary retired in 1997 after raising 5 children and working most of her life as a cook in local restaurants. Everyone that knew her always looked forward to “Mrs. Mary’s”cooking…she always said that if you went away hungry it was own fault!

She was preceded in death by her husband Archie Enfinger and her parents.
Survivors include two sons Larry (Linda) Enfinger of Chumuckla, Garry (Brandy) Enfinger of Milton; three daughters; Lou Ellen (Tony) Burks of Pace, Karen (Ken) Gramm of Milton, Karlene (John) Jernigan of Chumuckla; two sisters Julia Joyner of Columbus, GA,, Joyce Casler of Jay, FL; 9 grand children and 4 great grand children, and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be; George Joyner Sr., Wayne McMillan, Terry Capers, Lamar Waldrop, Russell Enfinger, and Matthew Thorne (Aunt Mary’s special great- nephew).
Funeral will be officiated by her nephew John Patrick Whitfield.

Denny Grant Segrest, went to swag the gates of Heaven on Monday, January 23, 2012. We may never understand why God takes someone before we're ready, but obviously He is planning a fantastic party and needs an outstanding decorator; God chose the best!

Denny was born August 8, 1956 and spent his entire life in Chumuckla, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wilfred Segrest, and his grandparents, Claude Grant, Maggie Kelly Grant, and Robert and Bessie Segrest.

He is survived by his mother, Odene Grant Segrest; his sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Mack Wombles; his special cousin, Glennie Faye Hearn; his God-children, Melanie Gaylard Gibbs, Jason Gaylard, Justin Gaylard, and Mikayla Thomas; his special phone friends, Tessie Williams, Dot Germann, and Lillian Ward; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, who all loved him very much.

Denny never met a stranger. He was a bright and shining star who touched the lives of many people all over the world. To know him was to love him.

Visitation will be Friday, January 27, from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at the Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel. A celebration of his life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at the funeral home with burial to follow at Elizabeth Chapel Cemetery.

Pastor Joey Rogers and Bishop Vincent Warren will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Denny's cousins. Lewis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Danny Lewis Holt, loving husband, father and grandfather passed to his heavenly home January 17, 2012. Danny was born January 19, 1948 in Fort Worth, Texas. He was the only child of Hilery Holt and Gladys Lambeth Kirkland who proceeded in him in death.

He is survived by his wife Bonnie of 45 years, his son Dan (Pamela), daughter Nancy (Richard) Brown and his grandchildren: Kristen (Carl) Carter, Katelin Holt, Emma Holt, Garrett Brown and Seth Brown. Survivors also include special cousins Robert (Linda) Holt of Flomation, AL and Gary (Anne) Holt of Pace, Sister-in-law, Carole (Floyd) Griffin of Baker, Brothers-in-law, Billy (Paula) Kimbrough and Jim (Elaine) Kimbrough of Chumuckla, Atwood (Sandra) Kimbrough of Pace and John (Addie) Kimbrough of McDavid as well as numerous other cousins, nieces and nephews.

Danny graduated from Chumuckla School in 1966. He attended Okaloosa-Walton Junior College where he played baseball and ran cross country. A general contractor in Santa Rosa County for 38 years, Danny was also a major participant in land development. He attended Milton First Assembly of God and taught a Wednesday night adult Bible class. While he spent many hours building in the local community, he was most recognized by his kindness, generosity and smile. Danny's well known testimony of his miraculous healing of cancer in 1985 will survive his death.

Friends may call for visitation at Milton First Assembly of God Friday, January 20, 2012 from 5 p. m. until 8 p. m. Funeral services will be held at Milton First Assembly of God Saturday, January 21 at 10 a. m. Burial will be at Elizabeth Chapel Cemetery immediately following. In lieu of flowers the family wishes for donations to be made to both The Gideons International, Santa Rosa Chapter and/or Milton First Assembly's building fund.

Martha Ann Salter of Chumuckla, died January 5, 2012 at her residence after a courageous battle with cancer. God called and she slipped from the arms of her loving family into the waiting hands of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Martha has joy in her heart knowing that she would reunite with love ones that had preceded her to Heaven.

Martha was born in Atmore, Alabama on February 13, 1949 to the late Walter Woodrow & Irene Stacey Raines. Her father died when she was 10 years old. Hard times followed for the family. Those hard times helped shape her life in a positive way. It made her strong, confident and not afraid of hard work. Martin Salter came into her life and it was love at first sight. They married on April 10, 1965 at Brownsdale Baptist Church in Santa Rosa County. Although Martha was 16 at the time, she went on to complete her education and held a number of positions. She was employed by the Santa Rosa School Board, was an x-ray technician, and lastly was a correctional officer for the state. Her most important job was that of a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

The church and her family were central in her life. Martha led many to the Lord. She was a proud member of Pine Level Baptist Church and loved her church family dearly. Martha was proud of her Native American heritage. She recently became a member of the Santa Rosa Creek Indian Tribe. She received her tribal name of Bright Star. Now, when her family views the night sky they will be reminded of her physical and spiritual beauty.

Every moment is precious when death is near. Martha was able to embrace those moments to talk with those she loved sharing last thoughts, memories and wishes. She leaves behind her husband, Martin; her only daughter, Angela (Michael) Pennell; Grandchildren, Bradley (Candace) Pennell and Katie Pennell; great-grandchildren, Faith Pennell, Gabriel Pennell, Jacob Lewis and Elizabeth Pennell; Siblings, Billy (Shirley) Raines, Hazel (Buddy) Beasley, Helen Cresson, Dale (Ray) Hyde, Ruth Cameron, Patricia Raines and many nieces, nephews, and cousins that she loved dearly.

The family would like to thank Dr. C. David Smith, Dr. Alejandro A. Inclan, Dr. Gerald Lowery and all the Covenant Hospice Doctors, Nurses and Employees.

George Henry Bray, 82, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2012. George was a native of Santa Rosa County and resided here most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army for 21 years with tours of duty in Germany, France, Korea, and the United States; after retirement from the military, George was employed by the Florida Department of Transportation. He served as President of the Chumuckla Water System for over 30 years. He was a member of Elizabeth Chapel United Methodist Church.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Idelle Bray, and his brother-in-law, Earnest Jernigan.

George is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Gertrud Bray; his son, Dale (Caroline) Bray; and grandsons, Chris, Scott and Todd Bray of Knoxville, Tennessee; his sister, Rebecca Jernigan; nephew, Greg (Kathy) Jernigan; nieces, Julie Jernigan and Sandi (David) Coppedge; great-nephew and nieces, Ashton and Kandace Jernigan, Amy Allen and Amanda (Thim) Sowell.

Funeral service for George will be 2:00 PM Friday, January 6, 2012 at Chumuckla Community Church (formerly Elizabeth Chapel United Methodist Church) with Rev. LaDon Hall and Rev. Edwin "David" Van Leer, 63, of Chumuckla, FL went to be with the Lord on December 19th, 2011.

David is survived by his wife of 42 years, Diane Van Leer; a daughter, Mary Shank and three grandsons who were the light of his life - Ryan, Jason and Connor. He is also survived by his siblings, Henry (Barbara) Van Leer, Robert (Elena) Van Leer, Sheila Anderson and Father In Law Jim Shafron.

David retired from BellSouth after 39 years of service and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

A memorial service in honor of David will be held at Lewis Funeral Home at 4777 W. Spencerfield Rd in Pace, FL at 11am on Tuesday December 27th, 2011.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Covenant Hospice of Pensacola in David's memory.

(Paul) Busby; two grandchildren, Michael Brackin and Brandy Bunch; two step-grandchildren, Cameron and Devin Busby; one great-grandchild, Christain Brackin; two brothers, Jack (Cathy) Joiner and Ottis (Marie) Joiner; two sisters, Dottie (Wayne) Pugh and Linda Jordan; several nieces and nephews and her beloved dog, Blondie.

She is survived by her eight children whom she loved dearly, Herschell (Celeste) Dothan, AL, Louie Orrell (Margie) of Milton, FL, Wastle (Polly) of Chumuckla, FL, Gene of Cantonment, FL, Bill (Shelby) of Flomaton, AL, David (Terri) of Pace, FL, Judie Spears Dotson (Ted) of Pace, FL, Linda Spears Grooms (Marion) of Gulf Breeze, FL. She is also survived by 31 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, and 7 great, great grandchildren.

Myrtle Mae Campbell Kilpatrick, age 95, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2011.

Myrtle was born on February 1, 1916 to the late Herbert and Julia Campbell in Chumuckla, Florida and had lived all her life in Chumuckla. She and her husband donated land for Chumuckla United Methodist Church North Campus (Chumuckla Community Church) where she was a faithful member.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband of over 50 years, Willie A. Kilpatrick; son, Rodney H. Kilpatrick; brothers, Lora (Foye) Campbell, Cecil Campbell, and Willie (Callie Dee) Campbell; sisters, Christeen (Luther) Livingston, Mary Bessie (Carl) Kilpatrick; brother-in-law, Ruthard Cotton.

Theodore G. "Ted" White, age 79, passed away on Friday, September 23, 2011.

Ted retired from Monsanto after 31 years. He served in the U.S. Navy as an Air Traffic Controller, valuing that time of his life greatly. He was an avid golfer, being known to "shoot his age" quite frequently.

He was preceded in death by his parents,

James J. and Edna Haynes Noel; sister, Jane Bouler.

Ted is survived by his four children, Noel Anthony (Abby) White of Texas, Toby White of Chumuckla, Wendy (Thomas) Watts of Atmore, and Tracy (Charles) Burgess of Jay; grandchildren, Jessica White, Kendall (Kat) White, Kendrick (Amber) White, Kelley Nunemaker, Christina (John) Brown all of Texas, Kevin (Melissa) Lovett of Pace, Colton White of Chumuckla, Jansen Burgess and Taylor Burgess of Jay; 3 great grandchildren; sister, Christina (Michael) Harrison; mother of his children, wife of over 20 years and continued loyal friend, Elsie White; his faithful companion, his dog "girlfriend" Susie-Q; and many nieces, nephews cousins, and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Julia Faye (Nowling) Diamond, his daughter, Vaneica (Jimmy) Burgess of Jay, his grandchildren, Ashlynn Burgess, Chandler Burgess and Andrew Diamond, all of Jay, his sister, Elaine Golden (Roy) of Pace, his daughter-in-law, Lucinda Diamond of Jay, his brother-law, Elton Nowling of Jay, nieces, nephews and many friends.

Raymond was a pillar of the community and was well loved by all who knew him. He was very passionate about his family and loved to fish and work. He was well known as the owner of Diamond's Grocery where he worked for 50 years. He was also a bus driver for 41 years and enjoyed farming.

A special thank you to Dr. David Smith, Dr. James Stringfield, Dr. Lance Raney and Dr. Jeff Kelley. The family would also like to thank the nursing staff of Jay Hospital and the 3 West nursing staff at Baptist Hospital, as well as the Jay Volunteer Fire Department.

He will be greatly missed by family, friends and the community.

Essye Wyman (1928 - 2011) Our much loved Mom, Essye Wyman, 83, passed away unexpectedly Sept. 5, 2011, after suffering a stroke. Essye was born in Esto, Fla., on Aug. 15, 1928, to Shelby and Mary Davis. After high school she went to Business College in Jacksonville, Fla., where she met her future husband, David Wyman. They married in 1948 and eventually settled in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., where they raised six children. Essye worked at the Fort Walton Beach High School library, retiring in 1991 after 20 years of service. In addition to working for the school system, she loved her second career as a waitress. For 47 years she worked at various area restaurants, including The Blue Room, Marina Bay, and most recently Brooks Bridge Barbecue. Essye was active with First Baptist Church of Fort Walton Beach. She and her husband were also avid boosters for the NWFSC Raiders. Essye's most loved activities were spending time with her family and friends, and taking daily walks. Essye was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, David Wilbur Wyman; as well as two sons, David Jr. and Gregory Lee; and both of her parents. She is survived by four children, Glenda (Lindsey) Harp, Bruce (Debbie) Wyman, Gail (Roger) Renfroe, and Diane (James) Baughman; her brother, Willard (Miriam) Davis; two nieces; one nephew; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Mable H. Campbell, Age 91, of Silverhill, AL, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at Consulate Health Care of Pensacola, Pensacola, FL. She was born on April 13, 1920 in Oneonta, Alabama to the late Hubert Hendricks and Mamie Hendricks.

Mable H. Campbell was a loving wife, mother and homemaker. She and her late husband Oswald R. Campbell resided in Crestview, Florida for 47 years and were members of the First United Methodist Church. She moved to Silverhill, AL in 2000 and was a member of the Silverhill Evangelical Covenant Church.

Besides her parents and husband, Mable was preceded in death by one sister, Lula Belle Hendricks. Survivors include, two sons and a daughter-in-law, William R. Campbell of Senatobia, MS and Joe O. & Patricia H. Campbell of Silverhill, AL; a grandson, Daniel C. Campbell; a granddaughter, Jennifer A. Campbell, both of Silverhill, AL; brothers, James, Donald, Barnett, John D., and Billy Hendricks all of Jay, FL and sisters, Flora Mae Cole of Dyersburg, TN, Mildred Golden of Jay, FL, and Annie Lord of Milton, FL.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. and funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church of Pace in Pace, FL with the Rev. John Webb officiating. Interment will follow at Elizabeth Chapel Cemetery in Chumuckla, FL. Dr. Hendricks graduated from Asbury College and Candler School of Theology, Emory University and awarded the Doctorate of Divinity from Huntingdon College. An ordained elder in the United Methodist Church, Dr. Hendricks served pastorates for 40 years throughout the Alabama-West Florida Conference including Crestview, Baker, Pensacola, Elba, Tallassee, Greensboro, Montgomery, Shalimar, Troy, Marion, and Pollard, and 6 years as a District Superintendent of the Andalusia District. His military service of 37 years included service in the United States Navy and as a chaplain the Alabama Army National Guard where he obtained the rank of Colonel and was awarded The Meritorious Service Medal. In his retirement years he served as Hospice chaplain in Escambia County, Florida. Dr. Hendricks was preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Mary Hendricks, his brothers John, William, J.D., Luther, and Ray Hendricks, and sister Ruth Gomillion. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty Kimbrough Hendricks, sons Randy (Cathie), Steve (Becky) Hendricks, and daughter Mary Kaye (Dan) Bailey, a brother Robert (Barbara) Hendricks and sister Frances (Wendell) Kilpatrick, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was born on Sept. 22, 1937 in Chumuckla, Florida to the late Herman and Vida Watson.

Horace was a U.S. Navy Veteran, Gunners Mate 3rd. Class. He will be remembered with a cup of coffee always in his hands.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Gerald Watson and Curtis Watson.

Horace is survived by his sons, Benjamin Wayne (Amy) Watson and Virgil Lynn (Paty) Watson, Sr.; grandchildren, Jacob, Jason, Jared, Alexandra, and Fransis, Virgil, Jr., great grandchildren, Isaac, Kahlynin, and Aaron; sisters, Louise (Camie) Tima-an, Kathy Udell, Jean Williams, Gwen (Richard) Willis, and Jewel (Wayne) Riddlebaugh; brother, Hillary (Norma) Watson.

A reunion lunch and school tour was held at Chumuckla School, May 28. Those attending included past students from as early as 1941. Nearly 200 came to share memories. The then new school was completed by Mr. Phil Harris, the patriarch of a family of builders and brick masons whose legacy continues in the area to this day. John Barnes (now deceased), who was the respected VA representative for our county was always proud of being the “very first” to graduate - receiving his diploma first in line since his name was early in the alphabet. John went on to join the Army and was in the first waves on the beaches of Normandy in 1944. One of his classmates from 1941, Kathleen Renfroe Rush and her sister in law - Mrs. W.R. Renfroe were present to enjoy the school tour and the pot luck lunch with many friends from the ‘40’s through the ‘70’s. Some boys who received diplomas in 1943 and 1944 were not present to accept their diplomas. They had already gone into military service. Alvin Enfinger and John Horton both said they were represented at graduation ceremonies by an empty chair. A wide range of students from the 1950’s, ‘60’s and ‘70s were present with memorabilia and stories to share. The MC for the program was Rick Hunsucker (‘67) who has served as principal of the elementary school. Mrs. Sherry Smith, the current principal, was a gracious host for a reflective tour of the old school and the new facilities. Several men were heard to point out particular rooms and to remember ancient teachers where they met the force of discipline.

After the reunion event, some of the former students took a tour of Coon Hill cemetery and the museum maintained by Lavern Howell. The great heritage of Chumuckla is faithfully passed along through these treasures.

An informal group of students is developing a plan for future school-wide reunions. They hope to find a convenient date that will remain the same every year. Individual classes and smaller groups will continue to hold gatherings throughout the year. Former students, teachers, staff and friends are always welcome. More pictures HERE

Staff Sergeant Jeffrey E. Hawthorne, age 34, of Colorado Springs, CO passed away April 22, 2011 from injuries received in an automobile accident.

He was a native of the Chumuckla Community, a 1995 graduate of Central High School in Allentown. He has served 16 years active duty with the U. S. Army as a Military Policeman. His duty stations include: Fort McLellan, Alabama; Fort Benning, Georgia; Grafenott, Germany; Albania; Kosovo; Brussels, Belgium; Fort Jackson, South Carolina; Korea; Norfolk, Virginia and Fort Carson, Colorado.

He had a great love and respect for his God, his Country and his Career. Devotion to his career is evidenced by the vast number of Commendations and Medals he earned.

Jeffrey was preceded in death by his brother, Chester Hawthorne.

He is survived by: his parents, Joseph Edward and Ruth Barley Hawthorne of Chumuckla; sisters, Cynthia Bloyd of Pensacola, Diane (John) Marceau of Fredrick, MD; nephews, Kevin and Sean Carroll of Fredrick, MD, Joseph Bloyd, Joshua Hawthorne and Tony Pierce all of Pensacola; aunts, Marian Hendrix, Loretta McCrory, Ann Blanton, Cora Abel, and Irene Joyner; uncles, Ralph Barley, Jr. and James Hawthorne; many extended family members as well as his military family.

The Hawthorne family wishes to thank the men and women of Fort Carson military base, the Military Police family, for the support given during Jeffrey's Hospitalization and afterwards, especially Sergeants 1st Class Stafford and Graves and Captain Pique. They would also like to thank Cora Abel and Kathy Faust.

DR. OLYN KELLY MATTHEWS, 1921-2011

Dr. Olyn Kelly “Doc” Matthews, 89, of Milton, Florida passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 12, 2011.

Dr. Matthews was born on June 26, 1921, on a 380 acre farm near Ponce de Leon, Florida. He enjoyed participating in high school sports, especially track. He graduated from Ponce de Leon High School in 1939. Doc received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree from Auburn University in 1943. Three of his brothers were also veterinarians. After graduation, he worked for the State of Illinois doing food inspection until July, 1944, when he moved to Milton. He then received an honorable discharge from the Army Veterinary Corp. Doc’s first job in Milton was an assistant state veterinarian and practitioner of veterinary medicine in Santa Rosa, Okaloosa and Escambia counties. He handled 26 dairies, many farms, the Jay Livestock Market, and vaccinated 30,000 hogs each year for many years. He married Elizabeth Campbell from Chumuckla in 1947 and they had two children. Doc and Elizabeth were involved in their children’s activities, church activities, and sports. He played baseball for the Milton Red Sox for seven years and was on First Baptist Church’s softball team for many years. He enjoyed playing in tennis tournaments and won many trophies. Doc was also active in his community. He was a past president of the Milton Kiwanis Club, Milton Quarterback Club and the Northwest Florida Veterinary Medical Association. He was elected to the Santa Rosa County School Board (1966-70).

Dr. Matthews was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and was selected as Man of the Year in 1990. He was campaign chairman of the United Way of Santa Rosa County for two years. He was an active member of First Baptist Church since joining in 1945. Doc retired in 1988 after 45 years in veterinary practice.

Dr. Matthews was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth Campbell Matthews; parents, Oscar Eugene Matthews and Louise Sutton Matthews; six brothers, Roland, Lavern, Howard, Wilson, E. O., Eglon; and three sisters, Melba Tanton, Maida Parshall, and Olene Matthews.

He is survived by his son, Roger (Vicky) Matthews of Milton and daughter, Martha (Robert) Trigg of Navarre; two adored granddaughters, Autumn and Ashley Matthews of Milton; four sisters-in-law, Mattie Matthews of Bonifay, Margaret Matthews of Marianna, Myrtle Campbell of Pensacola, Frances Campbell of Chumuckla; many nieces, nephews; and a special family friend, Rosie.

Visitation will be from 9:00 -11:00 am on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at First Baptist Church in Milton. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am with Dr. David Spencer officiating. A lunch for family and friends will follow at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center. A private burial will be at Elizabeth Chapel Community Cemetery in Chumuckla, Florida at a later time. Letha Harris Myers, 89, of Chumuckla passed away on February 21, 2011 in her home with family at her side. Mrs. Myers was born on April 8, 1921 to the late Phil and Vernie Harris. She was a charter member of New Hope Assembly of God Church. She enjoyed cooking, fishing, traveling, church, and her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 49 years, Curt Myers; and twelve brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Myers is survived by her four children, Linda (Ray) Stinson, Nadine (James) Carnley, Deborah (Jim) Miller, and Drew (Kim) Myers; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; brother, Hoover (Lillian) Harris; special niece that she loved dearly, Linda Harris; and many other nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends from 6-8pm Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Lewis Funeral Home Pace Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Lewis Funeral Home Pace Chapel with Rev. Dan Hellums and Rev. Dykes Strickling officiating. Burial to follow in Elizabeth Chapel Community Cemetery.

Rogene Howell Kilpatrick went home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 17, 2011.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jesse L. Kilpatrick and Prudence Howell Kilpatrick.
Rogene was born July 2, 1929 in Santa Rosa County at Chumuckla.
He has been a member of Campus Church Pensacola Christian College since 1979.

Rogene served in the Korean War with the 1st marine division in the Battles of Pusan Perimeter, Inchon and Chosin Reservoir. He retired from Monsanto after 33 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, scuba diving and prospecting for rocks and fossils.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Virgina, (Married May 7, 1960), sister, Colleen Scott of California and a brother, Vernon Kilpatrick of New Jersey plus many nieces, nephews and cousins whose lives he enriched beyond measure.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations to Rejoice in The Lord TV Pensacola Christian College Box 18006 Pensacola, FL 32523 or Covenant Hospice 8333 N. Davis Highway, Pensacola 32514

Donald Rex Godwin, a lifelong resident of Jay, passed away on February 4, 2011 at age 75.

He was preceded in death by his parents, R.D. and Irene Godwin and his brother, Travis Godwin.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Inez Godwin; their children, Sam Godwin, Andrew (Wendy) Godwin and Jennifer Godwin; their grandchildren, Bishop Godwin and Aurora Godwin; his sister, Annette (Ted) House; his brothers, Rufus (Cora Lee) Godwin and Ricky Godwin; and many other family and friends.

Rex was born on March 29, 1935. He graduated from Livingston Alabama State Teachers College in 1957 and after that he served his country for two years in the United States Army. He married the love of his life, Inez Peterson, on October 14, 1960. He lived his life as a man dedicated to his family, his chosen profession of farming and his community. His lifelong interests included hunting, fishing and sports of all kinds.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at Jay Funeral Home from 11am to 12pm for the family and from 12pm to 2pm for friends.

Thomas Lee Diamond, 96, of Chumuckla passed away on Wednesday, February 02, 2011.

Mr. Diamond was born on October 21, 1914 in Jay, Florida. He worked for the L&N Railroad from 1941 ? 1977. He enjoyed working in his vegetable garden and especially loved growing his famous tomatoes. Mr. Diamond was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church and a present member of First United Methodist Church of Pace. He was married 73 years to the love of his life, Vesta Kimbrough Diamond, who preceded him in death exactly 18 months prior. Also preceding him in death were his parents, Ben and Alice Diamond; one brother, Wiley Diamond; and three sisters, Olivia Amos, Bea Beck and Vela Parrish.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Carolyn Diamond of Pensacola; four grandchildren: Jodi and Mike Suchan of Jacksonville, Fl; Cheryl and Tommy Raines of Pensacola; David and Helen Diamond of Atlanta, Ga; Kevin and Mandy Diamond of Birmingham, Al; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother and his wife, George and Betty Diamond of Pace; one sister, Vera Bogart of Pensacola; and one sister in law, Rosalia Diamond of Pensacola; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

A service will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. at Lewis Funeral Home of Pace with Rev. John Webb officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Elizabeth Chapel Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be David Diamond, Kevin Diamond, Ronnie Diamond, Jim Kimbrough, Jay Nelson and Tommy Raines.

Elizabeth Campbell Matthews, 85, of Milton, Florida peacefully departed from her home surrounded by family to her Heavenly mansion on Wednesday, January 26, 2011.

Elizabeth was born on April 9, 1925 in Pace, Florida and moved to Chumuckla in 1932. She was the youngest of three children born to James Edward (Jim) Campbell and Dessie Howell Campbell. She enjoyed acting in many plays and playing basketball at Chumuckla High School (Class of 1942). Elizabeth received a degree in Home Economics Education in 1946 from Florida State College for Women (now Florida State University). She taught Home Economics at Fort Walton High School during the 1946-47 school year. A neighbor in Chumuckla, Mrs. Lulu Kimbrough, invited Elizabeth and Olyn to dinner for the purpose of introducing them to each other. They married on September 12, 1947, at her parents' home in Chumuckla. Elizabeth took delight in being a homemaker, raising her two children and assisting her husband by answering phone calls while he was making farm visits as the county veterinarian. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother with a sweet, gentle spirit. She was cherished and will be deeply missed.

Elizabeth was a member of First Baptist Church of Milton since 1947. She enjoyed working with four-year-olds in Sunday School for many years. Along with her church activities, she was a leader in Cub Scouts and Junior Garden Club.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by two brothers, J. Lee Campbell and Lamar Campbell.

Elizabeth is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dr. Olyn Matthews; son Roger (Vicky) Matthews of Milton; daughter Martha (Robert) Trigg of Navarre; two granddaughters Autumn and Ashley Matthews of Milton; four sisters-in-law, Myrtle Campbell of Pensacola, Frances Campbell of Chumuckla, Mattie Matthews of Bonifay, Margaret Matthews of Marianna; many cousins, nieces, nephews; and a special friend, Rosie.

Visitation will be from 10:30-12:00 pm on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at First Baptist Church in Milton. Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon with Dr. David Spencer officiating. A lunch for the family and friends will follow at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center. A private burial will be at Elizabeth Chapel Community Cemetery on a later date. Lewis Funeral Home, Milton is in charge of the arrangements.

Lorenzo Talmadge Stewart, 70, of Cantonment, FL passed away on Saturday, September 25, 2010. Lorenzo was born on September 4, 1940 at the family home in Jay, FL. His parents were Walter and Ethel Stewart. He graduated from Chumuckla High School and went on to graduate from the University of Florida’s Pharmacy School in 1961. He worked at The Drug Shop for 39 years and became owner in 2000 for a total of almost 50 years. Lorenzo was an active member and Past President of the Escambia County Pharmaceutical Association. He was a past member of the Krewe of Lafitte, Karnival Kavaliers and the Waterfront Improvement Society. Lorenzo married Jeannie Biddie on December 29, 1964. They were married for 45 years. He loved spending time with his family. Hunting and fishing were his favorite pastimes which he loved to do with his family and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, Walter and Ethel Stewart. He is survived by his loving wife, Jeannie Biddie Stewart; daughters, Dawn (Bryan) Henderson and her children, Hannah Jane, Bryna, Suzannah and Juliana of Pace, FL and Daphne (Tiger) Godwin and her children, Travis and Jody of Jay, FL; sisters, Margaret (Glen) Campbell of Chumuckla, FL, Mildred (Jack) Hare of Milton, FL, Mavis (Bill) Morris and Ruthie (Ed) Fortune both of Pace, FL and Lanara (Howard) Southard of Pensacola, FL; brother, Lorandal (Beth) Stewart of LaGrange, GA as well as 17 nieces and nephews, 33 great nieces and nephews that he loved. Mom was born in Bluff Springs but lived in Pensacola for years. She lived the latter days of her life in Chumuckla and was a member of the Chumuckla United Methodist Church.
Mom was preceded in death by her husband and our father, Aubrey L. Dixon, Sr. and her second husband and our step-father, C. C. Griswold; infant daughter, Wilma Jean; son, Edward L. Dixon; parents, Frank and Effie Lou Barnes; sister, Orene Turek; brothers, Joe, Rigdon, and Leroy Barnes.
Mom is survived by daughter, Dorothy Flanders; son, A. Lee (Betty) Dixon; grandsons, W. Butch Flanders, David (Caroline) Dixon and Scott Dixon; granddaughter, Cindy (John)Walker; great-grandsons, Cole and Luke Flanders and Henry Lee Dixon; great-granddaughters, Morgan and Marissa Walker and Layla Grace Dixon; brother, Hugh Barnes; sister, Daphene Soloway; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Mom leaves behind her special friends, Marty and Diane Griswold, and all of their children and grandchildren. Mom loved them as her adopted family. She also leaves behind Loveda Reynolds, one of her neighbors, that was so caring for mom.
Funeral services will be held at Lewis Funeral Home Pace Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3:00pm to 4:00pm on Friday, July 30, 2010 with services beginning at 4:00pm. The Reverend Clive Knights will officiate.

He is survived by his wife of 70 1/2 years, Helen Alberta Hopkins; his two sons, Billy (Shirley) Hopkins and Troy (Virginia) Hopkins of Chumuckla, FL; three daughters, Hazel (Burdell) Moon of Waverly, TN, Helen (Wendell) Enfinger of Pace, FL, and Brenda (Clifford) McGraw of Chester, VA; 12 grandchildren, Janice (Ron) Berry, Ricky (Lesa) Hopkins, Darlene (Ibrahim) Al-Sowayan, James Moon, Lisa (Jim) Wolfe, Denise (Pedro) Warner, Randy Enfinger, Kay (Wayne) Isehower, Dwayne (Tammy) McGraw, Amanda (Stephen) Leavins, Tina (Jeff) Pack and ID Brewton; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Mr. Hopkins also leaves behind his faithful dog companion, Dolly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Molly Hopkins; two sons, Lonnie and Aaron Jr.; five brothers, and two sisters.

Mr. Monroe "Money" Holmes (1922 - 2010) | Visit Guest Book

Mr. Monroe Holmes, age 87, who was known to many of his friends as "Money" was born July 1, 1922 to the late Mrs. Lu Bradley and Mr.Doc Holmes in Marianna, FL, where he is survived by numerous family members. He died peacefully in his Milton home on Thursday, May 20, 2010.

Brother Holmes was preceded in death by his wife, Irma.

He found a loving friend who stuck "closer than a brother" in Mr. Harold Webb and was loved very much by the Webb family. It also made him happy to have found faithful friends in Brother Frank Clausell and Clifford Hill, and a lifelong friend in Deacon Willie Bailey.
He was an active member of St. John Divine Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee and a member of the Adult Choir until he could no longer attend because of illness.

He was an avid supporter of the Milton High School Panther football team. It was not uncommon to see him arrive at both home and away games with his bullhorn on his walker, ready to sound "The Panther Charge!"

Brother Holmes was an active Santa Rosa County Democrat who participated in almost all democratic functions and supported all democratic candidates. He particularly enjoyed riding on the democratic floats in the Martin Luther King and Milton Christmas parades. Mild mannered and soft spoken, he was admired by many friends in the community.

He will be missed by all who knew him.

Edward died Monday, April 12, 2010, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Pensacola, FL where he lived his entire life. He was a member of Chumuckla United Methodist Church in Chumuckla, FL.
He was preceded in death by his father, Aubrey Lee Dixon, Sr.
He is survived by his loving mother, Louise Dixon Griswold, Chumuckla, FL; son, Scott Edward Dixon of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; brother, A. Lee Dixon, Jr. (Betty) of Milton, FL; sister, Dorothy Flanders of Pace, FL; niece, Cindy Walker (John); two nephews, William Fred Flanders, Jr. and David Dixon (Caroline) of San Francisco, CA; three great-nieces, three great-nephews, cousins and many friends.
He was an electrical contractor and was the past owner of Buck's Electric.
Visitation will be from 10:00am to 11:00am, Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at Lewis Funeral Home Pace Chapel. Funeral service will begin at 11:00am with the Rev. Clive Knights officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Covenant Hospital West Florida Hospital.

James was born on May 26, 1927 in Coffee County, Alabama. He was a long time resident of Allentown, FL. He was a U. S. Army, Air Force Veteran. He retired from Pensacola Tractor Company in 1983 and retired from Thomas Tractor Repair in 2003.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Nell Thomas; sisters, Maureen (Don) McLaughlin, Mary Lemonis; sister-in-law, Ann Thomas; five children, John (Debbie) Thomas, Mitchell (Kelly), Diane (Robert), and Teresa; ten grandchildren, Laci (Chad) Levi, Andrew (Keisha), James (Christine), Chrystal (James), Micheal (Ava), Amanda (Cody), Caleb, Joshua, Courtney; 12 great-grandchildren, Landon, Jordan, Jacob, Everett, Jackson, Hunter, Darren, Tia, Nylah, Makayla, Hailey, and Dustin.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 pm, Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel. Funeral service will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel. Burial will follow at Pineview Methodist Church Cemetery on Highway 89 in Allentown, FL.

Mr. Otha Easter Harris, 86, of Chumuckla, passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2010.
Mr. Harris was born in Chumuckla and was a lifelong resident of the Santa Rosa County area.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, and he was the last surviving member of the 1941 State Basketball Championship Team from Chumuckla. He was a lifelong member of the Chumuckla Methodist Church.
Mr. Harris is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Bennie Evelyn Strickland Harris; a son, Michael Harris; and his parents, Ernest Phil Harris and Vernie Ard Harris.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Harris; his son, Phil (Marba) Harris; his daughter, Janis (Bobby) Simmons; his grandchildren, Stephen Simmons, Dale (Marissa) Simmons, Nikki (Jared) Palmer, Lisa (Brock) Stewart; four great-grandchildren, Lela, Justin, Makenna and Brayden Simmons; a step-son, Lamar (Gail) Harris; his sisters, Letha Myers, Lavenia Nelson; his brother, Hoover (Lillian) Harris, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at the Lewis Funeral Home Chapel in Pace, with Rev. Clive Knights and Rev. Bobby Carnley officiating. Burial will follow in the Elizabeth Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery with Lewis Funeral Home Pace Chapel directing.

Randy Childers, of McShan, AL, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2010 at home.

Randy Childers was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved to be on the water whether if be fishing, boating or working. He was an extraordinary person who was able to do anything he wanted from football, boating, fishing, electrician, construction, catfish farming, restaurant owner (cook), and everything in between. He always made time for friends and family no matter how busy his life was for him. He lived a very happy go lucky life and never met a stranger.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Childers.

Survivors include his wife, Kris M. Childers; daughter, Raven M. Childers; and son, Neil R. Childers, all of McShan, AL; sisters, Patricia Mathews of Lakeland, FL and Donna Zieglar of Plant City, FL; grandchildren, Alexia B Childers of Caledonia, MS and Haley Ridings of Millport, AL.

Services will be held Saturday, February 20 at 4pm at 8270 Welcome Church Road Milton, Florida.

Martha Jane Carpenter, 80, of Milton, died Monday, October 19, at a local hospital. She was born in Brewton, Alabama, to the late Sanford S. Murphy and Bernice Peebles and lived most of her life in Milton. She was a longtime member of First Assembly of God in Milton.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward G. Carpenter; son, Thomas Wade Wyatt; and daughter, Linda Sue Reeves.
She is survived by a son, Sandy (Nancy) Wyatt; daughters, Shirley (Thomas) Moody and Tamra (Scott) Day, all of Santa Rosa County; grandchildren, Donald Braley of Naples, Florida, Jeremy (Rilee) Wyatt and Rhonda McGhee of Pace, and Jennifer Bryant of Foley, Alabama; great-grandchildren, Chase Macarthy and Cameron McGhee, and a longtime special friend, Evelyn Beasley of Jay.
Family will receive friends Thursday, October 22, 2009, at 11:30 am at Lewis Funeral Home Milton Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 pm., with the Rev. Fred Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in the Serenity Gardens Cemetery.

Doyce Ray McWaters (1939 - 2009)

Doyce Ray McWaters, 70, of Crestview, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, Oct. 9, 2009.

He was born July 22, 1939 in Milton, Fla. and was a lifelong resident of Northwest Florida.

Doyce graduated from Milton High School in 1957 and enlisted in the United States Air Force proudly serving his country. After completing basic training, he trained as a Morse Intercept Operator at Keesler AFB, Ms. Upon completion, he was selected for further training as a Non-Morse Intercept Operator at March AFB, Ca. Upon completion of his specialized training he received a top secret security clearance and was sent to Karamursel Air Station, Turkey, where he performed duties that have been credited with making an important contribution to the United States effort in the cold war.

In 1961, he married the love of his life, Audrey Carol Harvell and together they raised a beautiful family. Doyce was a very proud and doting "Pop" to his two children, Pam and Todd, but his pride and joy was his "Special Angel", granddaughter, Tori Reynolds. He was affectionately known to many as Uncle Doyce and was a wonderful father figure and mentor to his many nieces and nephews.

Doyce was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church and enjoyed singing in the choir. After retiring from Frito Lay in 2002, he followed in his wife's footsteps and took up the game of golf, becoming a member and part owner of Foxwood Country Club. He was an avid sports fan known to cheer on the Braves, Seminoles and Celtics. Doyce loved fishing and also had a great love of country and gospel music; his favorites were George Jones and J.D. Sumner. An accomplished musician in his own right, Doyce enjoyed playing guitar with family and many friends.

Doyce was preceded in death by his father, Malvin McWaters; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Woodrow and Gladys Harvell; brothers-in-law, Bobby and Roger Harvell, Ish Grogan; and nephew, David McWaters.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Audrey McWaters; his children, Pam Reynolds and Todd McWaters; his grand-daughter, Tori Reynolds; his mother, Maudie McWaters; his siblings, Herman (Joan) McWaters, Faye (Jerry) Waters, Dwight McWaters, Martha (Howard) Peeler, Rick (Sara) McWaters; his brother-in-law Scoot (Donna) Harvell; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pall Bearers will be his son, Todd McWaters; nephews, Bradley Harvell, Chad Harvell, Drew Harvell, Derek McWaters and Jeff Lemberger.

Visitation will be at Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home on Monday, Oct. 12 from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral services will be Tuesday, Oct. 13 at Woodlawn Baptist Church Hwy. 85 N. Crestview at 2 p.m., with burial at Harper Cemetery, Hwy. 87 Holley, Fla.

Oswald R. Campbell, age 94, of Silverhill, AL, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2009 at Santa Rosa Health and Rehab in Milton, FL. He was born November 24, 1914 in Chumuckla, FL to the late Cuyler H. Campbell and Bessie Savelle Campbell.
Oswald served in the Army Air Corp having served in WWII and was a Jet Engine Mechanic for the Civil Service at Eglin Air Force Base. He moved to Silverhill, AL in 2000 from Crestview, FL and was a member of Silverhill Evangelical Covenant Church and the National Rifle Association.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Clayton Campbell and his twin brother, Otto Campbell.
Survivors include his wife, Mable Hendricks Campbell; two sons and a daughter-in-law, William R. Campbell of Senatobia, MS and Joe O. & Patricia H. Campbell of Silverhill, AL; a grandson, Daniel C. Campbell; a granddaughter, Jennifer A. Campbell, both of Silverhill, AL; brothers, Donald, Rufus, Glen, Winston and Colbert Campbell, all of Chumuckla, FL; sisters, Lucille Lee and Evelyn Jamison of Robertsdale, AL and Louise Gregory of Pensacola, FL.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 2 PM from the Chapel of National Cremation & Burial Society, Milton, FL with Pastor Jesse Adams officiating. Interment will follow at Elizabeth Chapel Cemetery in Chumuckla, FL. Music will be by Seth Dunnington. Pallbearers will be Roger Campbell, Keith Campbell, Dale Campbell, Clay Campbell, Mahlon Campbell, David Campbell, Ricky Campbell and Ronald Campbell.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, October 8, from 12:30 PM until the funeral hour.

Vesta Diamond, 91, of Chumuckla passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2009.
Mrs. Diamond was born on September 18, 1917 in Montgomery, Al. but lived most of her life in northwest Florida. She attended Florida State College for Women and taught school in Santa Rosa County. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister and friend. She enjoyed cooking, working in her yard and vegetable garden. Mrs. Diamond was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and a present member of First United Methodist Church of Pace.
She was preceded in death by her parents Lovick & Tommie Kimbrough; and four brothers, Rev. Lloyd Kimbrough, Fred Kimbrough, Pete Kimbrough and John Kimbrough.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 73 years, T.L. Diamond; a son and daughter-in-law Jerry and Carolyn Diamond of Pensacola; four grandchildren Jodi and Mike Suchan of Jacksonville, Fl; Cheryl and Tommy Raines of Pensacola; David and Helen Diamond of Atlanta, Ga; Kevin and Mandy Diamond of Pensacola and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters and one brother; Katherine James of Chumuckla; Betty and Ralph Hendricks of Pensacola and one brother Jack and Betty Kimbrough.
The service will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Lewis Funeral Home of Pace with Rev. John Webb officiating. Interment will be at Elizabeth Chapel Cemetery.

Cynthia Juanita Campbell Mitchell won her courageous battle with cancer on July 3, 2009 and went to be with the Lord.
Cynthia was a devoted member of Wallace Baptist Church and she taught kindergarten and first grade at SS Dixon Elementary for 30 years. Cynthia devoted her life to raising her nieces, nephews, and grandchildren; teaching children; and to her family. Cynthia was the most kind and patient person, and each one who knew her knows there are not enough words to describe her character and the life she lived.
Funeral services will be held 2pm Sunday, July 5, 2009 at Wallace Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Elizabeth Chapel Cemetery

Tami Darlene Gomillion Mears, 46 of Pensacola, Florida, Won her battle with cancer. Tami passed from this earth to eternal life with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009. Some would say that death is losing, but we know that to die in Christ is to live in peace eternally.
Tami was born January 7, 1963, to her loving parents, Audrey Sanders & Earl Gomillion. She grew up in the Pensacola/Pace area, where she met the love of her life, Ronald Mears. The two were married, December 28, 1982, and three years later Tami gave birth to their baby girl, Felicia Darlene. Three and a half years after that came their handsome boy, Jeremy Brian. She was a loving wife and compassionate mother. She was also a mother to ALL who came into her life. Her home was an open door to all, and she was known as "mom" to most. She loved all of her "children."
Tami will be irreplaceable to her surviving husband, Ronald Mears; daughter and son-in-law, Felicia and James Davis; son, Jeremy Mears, mother & step-father, Audrey and Michael Sanders; father, Earl Gomillion, And other countless family members and friends.
Tami also filled a special place in the life of her biological brothers & sisters, Barry Van Matre, Joyce Cranford, Elaine Austin, Brenda Peavey, Kimberly Knight, "Buddy" Shepard, "Skeeter" Shepard, & Edward Shepard. Tami met her siblings at the age of 23 and began a cherished relationship that would last until her death.
Funeral services will be held 10:00am, Saturday, June 27, 2009 at Victory Assembly of God. Interment at Pine Level Cemetery. Family visitation will begin at 5:00pm, friends at 6:00pm, Friday, June 26, at Victory Assembly of God. (Cantonment) Lewis Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Etta Mae Ard,93 of Pensacola, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2009. She was born in Chumuckla, Florida on September 11, 1915. Etta was a member of Ellison Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Bud Ard, One daughter; Zilveree (Zip) Ard Senior.
Etta is survived by three sons; Willie Ray Ard of Vancover, Washington, G.B. Ard of Cantonment, FL and Robert Allen Steven Ard of Pensacola. One daughter; Robbie Ard Reddert of Pensacola. Twelve grandchildren and numerous Great-Grandchildren and Great-Great Grandchildren.
" We can sum up mother's life in one word-LOVE. She always welcomed everyone who came to her home. She genuinely cherished other. Mama always put others ahead of herself. She was generous, kind, warm hearted and loved to help others. She had a great memory and would tell stories about her upbringing. It was always fun to listen to her share her stories. Out treasure is gone now. We will all miss her more than words can say."
Visitation will be Sunday, June 7, 2009 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel.
Funeral service will be Monday, June 8, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel with Reverend David E. Boyd Officiating. Interment will follow in Bayview Memorial Park.

Marty Vann, 51, of the Chumuckla Community, passed away on May 24, 2009 at his residence.

Marty was a native and lifelong resident of the Chumuckla Community and a member of the Chumuckla Pentecostal Holiness Church. Marty will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, and friend. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved dirt track racing.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Vann; son, Nickolas Vann; stepchildren, Kimberly Moye of Atmore, AL, Misty Trumph of McDavid, Fl, Ben (Jamie) Ellison of Chumuckla, and Adam (Nikki) Ellison of Chumuckla; grandson, Joshua Trenton Vann; 7 step grandchildren; mother, Nelline Polk; father, Bill (Mildred) Vann; brother, John (Karen) Vann of Chumuckla; mother-in-law, Lois Freeman of Jay; 2 special friends, Doug Downing and Shelby Edwards.

Thomas Duncan Salter, Jr., age 78, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2009. Mr. Salter was a native and lifelong resident of Chumuckla and was active in farming until his recent illness. He owned and operated Salter's Farm Market. He loved fishing and feeding his fish in his pond in the afternoon. He was a member of Chumuckla United Methodist Church.
Mr. Salter was preceded in death by his parents; T.D. and Milton Salter.

Dovie Stewart, 88 of Jay, FL, left us to be with our Lord Monday morning, April 27, 2009 during a brief stay in a local hospital.
Mrs. Stewart was born February 9, 1921 in Jay and was a life long resident. She was an active charter member of New Bethel Baptist Church, where she was the church clerk and taught for many years. She was a retired teacher of Santa Rosa County. She taught elementary school for 43 years, all at Chumuckla except the first 2 years at Cross Roads.
Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Stewart; her parents, Issac N. and Mary H. Kemp of Jay; her brothers, Russell Odell Kemp and Reuben L. Kemp; and sister, Vona B. Jernigan.
Survivors to cherish her memory are sons, Wayland (Anne) Stewart of North Carolina and Wayne (Ann) Polk of Jay, FL; grandchildren, Julie (Charlie) Pride of Kentucky, Wesley E. Stewart of North Carolina, Cassandra (Cody) Emmett and Clay Polk, both of Jay; great-grandchildren, Emily and Will Pride, Wyatt and Jack Stewart; sister, Ellie B. Hall of Mobile, AL; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Special thanks to the compassionate staff of Jay Hospital and Virginia Bankich.

Lucille Frieda Allert of the Chumuckla Community passed away on April 14, 2009. Lucille, born in Illinois, moved with her family to Chula Vista, California before moving to Chumuckla in 1991. Lucille is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward and 2 grandchildren, Lauren Mitchell and James Jack. Lucille is survived by her children, Donna (Virgil) Ford; Edward (Betty) Allert; Linda (Larry) Mitchell; Sharon Cadger; Peggy (Wayne) Jack; 22 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren and 1 sister, LaVerne Thompson of Weatherford, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.

"I'm so thankful to the good Lord that I am here today. It was serious times back then," Enfinger said. "I'm kind of at a loss. There are other people who are certainly worthy and entitled to the medals more than I am. My brother gave his life at the Battle of the Bulge in 1945."
Floyd's brother Adrian was, I think killed in a town not far from Mannheim, Germany. There were a number of Enfinger boys and their cousins who served in WWII.

Mary Ann Bailey Deck passed into the arms of her lord and savior on April 6, 2009. She was a wonderful and caring mother. Our mother met no strangers. She always had a place in her heart for everyone. She lived her life as she wanted and was an avid fishing woman, happy home maker, loving wife and caring mother. She was always there to kiss the boo boo's and soothe the hearts that were broken.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Violet Elizabeth Dennison, father, Joseph E. Bailey, sister, Helen Logan and brothers Earnest Bailey and George Bailey.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Rebecca Angeline Passamore (Donnie), Susan Marie Fair (Tim), Janet Louise Deck and Vanessa Lynn Lucas (Rocky). She has 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
All friends are welcome to come celebrate the life of our mother at Jay Funeral Home on April 9, 2009 Thursday from 4-8pm with service starting at 8. In lieu of flowers we request you donate to the Children's Hospital of Sacred Heart Hospital.

Mildred Cobb Jernigan passed away peacefully March 28, 2009. Mildred was born August 11, 1921 in Fountain, but lived most of her life in Bagdad, where she was a beloved care-giver for pretty much anybody who needed her. Mildred cared for her husband and children, her sister and mother, her nieces and nephews, her grandchildren, her great grandchildren, her church family and the elderly residents in the community. A fragile little woman with a will of iron, she was born to teach and spent her life modeling the values she believed in. She began teaching at Chumuckla school as soon as she graduated from Milton High and taught Sunday School lessons to generations of Bagdad children, directed Vacation Bible School, Easter Egg Hunts, and many Christmas programs featuring little shepherd boys in their daddy's bathrobes and little girls with tinsel halos. Every year, Mildred said, "Never again!" but she always fell in love all over again with those little angels and the story they would tell beneath the Bagdad version of the Star of the East, crafted by her husband Sike. Mildred was a loyal member of the Bagdad United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, presided over the UMW, and dramatized the church's history so that no one could forget its legacy. Recognized as Volunteer of the Year and an Angel in Our Midst, Mildred was a loving, guiding presence who enriched all our lives.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Silas K. Jernigan, and her parents Mary Serena Olsen and Charles Lane Cobb.
Mildred is survived by special sister Anice Scott; her daughters Gayle (Mike) Cowley, of Bagdad, and Joy (Carl) Campbell who have just returned from Malawi, Africa; grandsons, Todd (Kim) Mooneyham of Milton, Brian (Madison) Mooneyham, of Charlotte, NC; Jeff Campbell, of Marietta, GA., Jeremy (Jenny) Campbell, of Brevard, NC., and Andrew Campbell, of Marietta, GA; granddaughter, Candice McCurdy, of Lawrenceville, GA; great-grandchildren, Samantha Jarman, Kaitlyn Mooneyham, Clayton Mooneyham, Destiny McCurdy, Zachary McCurdy, and Keaton Campbell; special nieces, Mary Ann Scott and Carol (Paul) Cash; brother-in-law, J.R. (Ruth) Jernigan; and sisters-in-law, Ruth Jernigan and Bonnie Jernigan.
Pallbearers will be Mildred's five grandsons and Lamar Whitaker.
The Reverends Harold Bordages, Gary Jones, and George McClure will officiate at services at 3 PM on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at the Bagdad United Methodist Church. Visitation will take place from 1 to 3 PM prior to services at the church. Friends may prefer to make contributions in Mildred's memory at the Bagdad United Methodist Church in lieu of sending flowers.

He was a born and lived in Jay, FL for 53 years, and member of Pine Level Baptist Church. He was one of a kind whom everyone loved. Before his illness he was always helpful to his neighbors, and he loved his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Nellie and Ottis Lockett.
He is survived by loving wife of almost 50 years, Louise (Taylor) Lockett; and wonderful children, Theresa (Frank) Randall and Bobby Lockett; three grandchildren, Frank Randall, Jr. (Skip), Brittney (Nick) Malley, Brandon Lockett and three great-grandchildren, Frank Randall III, Alexis Malley, and Nick Malley, Jr.; four brothers, Glenn (Friend Linda), Randall (Sue), Gary (Wanda), and Doyce (Ann); three sisters, Wynell (Jimmy) Nelson, Christine (Robert) Hatfield, and Francis (Merlin) Edwards.

International country music legend and Grand Ole Opry star Hank Locklin, who soared to stardom with the mega country/pop hit Please Help Me I'm Falling and wrote the country classic Send Me The Pillow You Dream On passed away on Sunday March 8th. He was 91 years old.
Locklin had been a Brewton, Alabama resident since 1984 and was well known among the locals as a friend and were never a stranger after meeting the cordial performer.
One of country's greatest tenors, Locklin scored one of the biggest hits of the music's golden era with "Please Help Me, I'm Falling," which spent a remarkable 14 weeks at No. 1 and 30 weeks in the Top 10 in 1960. With that hit came membership into the Opry, an honor he maintained for the rest of his life. Locklin's other big hits included Geisha Girl, Let Me Be The One, Country Hall of Fame and Danny Boy. For nearly two decades Locklin recorded for RCA Records (1955-1974). Locklin helped usher in the famous 1950s-60s Nashville Sound, which also featured the likes of fellow performers Jim Reeves, Patsy Cline and The Browns. His legacy grew overseas helping to spread country music popularity to Japan, Germany and especially to Ireland, where fans took to his clear, crisp tenor voice and claimed Locklin as an adopted son.
He was born Lawrence Hankins Locklin in the piney northwest Florida community of McLellan. In later years, after gaining international popularity, he was nicknamed the Mayor of McLellan by television/radio personality Ralph Emery. The name stuck as Locklin maintained residence there on his 350-plus acre Singing L Ranch until moving to Brewton 25 years ago.
While he was born into a family that reared doctors and educators, Locklin discovered very early he was to be a performer. Hank was picking guitar for amateur contests in nearby Milton, Florida, by age 10. In his teens he was a featured performer on Pensacola radio station WCOA. For the next several years, he played with a variety of groups through the South and worked at various jobs in Florida, including farmer, ribbon mill hanker, and shipyard worker.
After World War II ended, his career started taking off, and he appeared on Shreveport's Louisiana Hayride and the Big D Jamboree in Dallas, Texas. He recorded briefly for Decca, and after meeting producer Bill McCall, Hank recorded for McCall's Four Star Records for five years. Hank scored his first Top 10 song in 1949 with "The Same Sweet Girls." Four years later, he had a No. 1 with "Let Me Be the One," and a recording contract with RCA Victor followed.
The next year started a string of hit singles, with "Send Me the Pillow You Dream On," which he wrote, "It's a Little More Like Heaven," "Geisha Girl," "Fraulein," "Why, Baby Why," and "Blue Grass Skirt." In 1960, the remarkable success of "Please Help Me, I'm Falling"—the song not only dominated the country chart that year, but crossed over into the Top 10 pop charts in both the United States and the United Kingdom—earned him membership in the Grand Ole Opry. It also introduced the slip-note piano style to country music through legendary pianist Floyd Cramer and was a major factor in creating the "Nashville Sound." Locklin remembers, "Chet played me the demo and Don Robertson (one of the co-writers) was playing that slip-note on the piano…I told Chet if we could get Cramer to copy that style, we'd have us a hit, and we did." The slip-note piano style was synonymous with Hank's recordings from20that point forward and considered his signature sound.
Many hits followed throughout the '60s, including "We're Gonna Go Fishin'," "Happy Birthday To Me," "Happy Journey," "Followed Closely by My Teardrops," "The Country Hall of Fame," "Danny Boy" and "Where The Blue Of The Night, Meets The Gold Of The Day." During this time, Hank pioneered the creation of concept albums in country music with releases such as Foreign Love and Irish Songs, Country Style. Hank is also credited with taking country music to unprecedented heights of popularity with International audiences throughout the 50's, 60's and 70's. In all, Hank has sold more than 15 million albums and received numerous industry awards from The Grand Ole Opry, BMI, ASCAP, Cashbox, Billboard and NARAS.
Long a favorite with Opry audiences, Hank returned to the studio in 2001 to record Generations in Song. Featuring long-time colleagues such as Dolly Parton and Jeannie Seely, newer friends and admirers like Vince Gill (who cites Hank as an influence) and Jett Williams. Recently, Hank recorded his 65th album, a gospel album, with an award winning cast of artists such as The Oak Ridge Boys, The Jordanaires, Gold City and Jeff & Sheri Easter.
Locklin is survived by his loving wife of thirty-nine years, Anita Locklin, his children Margaret Kent, Maurice Locklin, Beth Padgett, Nina Hendricks, Amy Alford, and Hank Adam Locklin, along with his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Locklin was a member of Red Rock Lodge F. & A.M. in Munson, Florida, The Scottish Rite Bodies of Nashville, Tennessee and Hadji Shrine Temple in Pensacola, Florida.
Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, March 12th from 4:00pm-8:00pm at The First Baptist Church in Brewton, Alabama. Joe was a retired minister of 42 years who loved God's word, his family and nature. He served in the United States Army and retired from Monsanto with 35 years of service.
Preceding Joe in death were his parents, Jimmie and Maude Digmon, a brother, James Digmon, 2 sisters, Lillian Houston and Gertie Ahern.
Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Gail Digmon, his sons, Mark Digmon (Tina) and Mike Digmon (Beverly), his stepchildren, Donnie Bell (Marisa), David Bell (Ramona) and Beverly Lincke (Shane), his grandchildren, Ashley, Morgan, Holly and Kelly Digmon, Brittany, Zac, Reid and Reagan Bell, Kaily and Kason Lincke, 1 brother, Ray Digmon, 2 sisters, Eula White and Dot Cooper and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, March 8, 2009 at Highland Baptist Church in Molino, Florida with Rev. Brian Calhoun and Rev. Nathan Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Serenity Gardens Cemetery in Atmore, Alabama.

Randal L. "Randy" Touchton, 47 years young, from Chumuckla, Fl, passed away very unexpectedly on Thursday, February 19, 2009, from injuries sustained from a tragic automobile accident which occurred only miles from his home on Chumuckla Highway as he traveled to work.Randy was a wonderful person and was very special to all of those that were fortunate enough to know him. He spent most of his employment years as a mechanic with Goodyear Tire in Milton, Fl. Health concerns forced a change of career upon him and he worked the last few years of his life for Santa Rosa County as a Fog Truck Operator. He enjoyed hunting and was a member of Springhill Hunting Club. He loved racing, particularly dirt track races and Nascar. He was a jack of all trades, master at some and an incredibly giving human being. He worked hard all of his life to provide for all of those that he loved and is now finally at peace and can rest.
Randy leaves behind his wife, Kim, who will forever cherish his memory and the special bond that they shared. He is also survived by his son,Chris Touchton (Kerree King);his daughter, Jennifer (Bobby) Resmondo; two stepdaughters, Amanda (Ryan) Lazarte and Kaylene (Tra) Wilson; stepson, Tyler Jacobs. Randy was also blessed to have eight grandchildren, Bethany Touchton, Morgan, Ava and Clara Lazarte , Chastin and Courtney Wilson, Hanna and Isabella Ashcraft; his mother, Elmira Penton ; his brother, Raymond (Laura) Penton; three stepsisters, Brenda (Ray) Rivell, Linda (Pete) Reynolds, Becky (Mark) Cardona; a very special aunt who loved him as if he were her own, Geraldine (Jim) Peele ; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Lewis Funeral Home Milton Chapel. Ressie Norine Hopkins Kimmons, 88 of Pensacola, returned to her loving Heavenly Father on January 26, 2009. She was born in Chumuckla, FL on September 19, 1920.
Mrs. Kimmons retired from Mayes Printing Company and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She enjoyed spending time with her family and cooking.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David Edward Kimmons; her parents, Ruby and Isaac Hopkins; her brothers, Larence Hopkins, Perry Hopkins, Barney Hopkins, Henry Hopkins, Zollie Hopkins, Rollie Hopkins; and her sons, Reginald Kimmons and D.E. Kimmons.
Mrs. Kimmons is survived by her sons, Maxwell and Reba Kimmons of Birmingham, AL, Otis and Fran Kimmons of Pensacola, FL, Dannie and Iris Kimmons of Clawson, MI; her grandchildren, Regina Lewis, Daniel Kimmons, Richard Kimmons, Edward Kimmons, Theresa Linder, David Kimmons, Angela Chancelor, Otis Kimmons Jr., Sheri Frazier, Keith Kimmons, Natalie Kimmons, and Janet Carter; and 20+ great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Etta Ard.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 29, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Friday, January 30, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home with Bishop James Schoonover officiating and Brother Gene Ball assisting.

Gerald L. Kilcrease, age 65, of Pace, FL, went to be with the Lord Thursday, January 22, 2009. He was born May 17, 1943 in Pensacola, FL to the late Lester William Kilcrease and Edith Marie Brewton Kilcrease.He served in the United States Air Force having retired from NAS as a planner/estimator. He was a mason and attended Charity Baptist Church. His children were his heart, his daughter-in-laws were the girls he and Ritter never had and his granddaughter lit up his world. Jerry felt richly blessed, he enjoyed life and he counted his friends as treasures.Survivors include the love of his life, Ritter Kilcrease, to whom he was married for 39 years; his children, Jon (Theresa) Kilcrease of Milton and Tim (Stacey) Kilcrease of Crestview; two grandchildren, Isabella Kilcrease and Shannon Cooper; and a brother, James C. Kilcrease of Pensacola and many friends.Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Chapel of National Cremation & Burial Society with Rev. David Lewis and Rev. James McGaughey officiating. Music will be rendered by Sheila McGaughey. Interment will follow in Memory Park Cemetery. Thanks for the post on the web-site. Thought someone who knew Jerry would like to know about his passing. I woke up this morning and thought about he had spent his first night in Heaven and I wondered how many stories he had already told! Had to laugh out loud thinking about that. The man loved to recall Navy Yard stories so much he retold them all the time, no matter if you had heard it all before. They were funny and he wanted to enjoy them again! So I'm sure he has retold several already.

He was an organ donor and last night my sister-in-law talked with the people who deal with that. The lady told of what they could use and one was his brain for research. My sister-in-law laughed and said she could hear Jerry saying "is that all it's good for?".

We are all doing better today. Like they say time will heal. What's really a great comfort is knowing that he is in Heaven and in peace.
